The Ship Inn, Low Newton-by-the-Sea

The Ship Inn is a great little pub, nestled in a beautiful square of cottages overlooking the beach at Low Newton.

The pub has it’s own micro-brewery right next door, providing pub-goers with a range of fresh beers. These are complemented by a wide selection of other alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and great coffee to ensure that every taste is catered for. The Ship offers simple and quick lunches using locally sourced ingredients, including toasties, kippers and fish cakes. As a treat, the crumble, if on the menu during your visit, comes highly recommended. If the inside of the pub is full (as it often is on sunny summer days), there are tables outside and plenty of space on the green to sit and enjoy a toastie and a pint.

On Wednesday to Saturday evenings, the Ship Inn also offers evening meals, with the same focus on locally sourced ingredients, cooked simply and well. It’s best to book ahead if you’re planning a visit for dinner, and check the Ship’s website for seasonal opening times.

The Ship is a very dog-friendly pub, with your four-legged friend welcome to join you in the pub for lunch, dinner or just for a drink.

The pub’s location makes it perfect for combining with a walk on the beach either south towards Embleton and Dunstanburgh Castle, or north towards Beadnell.

The Ship also has an excellent timetable of live music events. Again, check the Ship’s website for a calendar of events.

Great for dogs because they’re welcome to join you in the pub while you enjoy your lunch, dinner or drinks. There are water bowls provided outside to keep your pooch hydrated, and a beach right on the doorstep to give them exercise when they get bored of watching you eat.

Great for kids because there’s a range of simple and delicious toasties, juices and ice creams available, as well as the green to run about on and the beach just a stone’s throw away for sandcastle building and rock pool exploration.
