St Aidan’s beach

St Aidan’s beach, sometimes referred to North Sunderland beach, is a 10 minute walk from Old Salt Cottage. Head through the village past the harbour and follow the footpath along the coastline until you reach a point where you can cut down onto the sand.

From here, you’ll get great views over the water to the Farne Islands and you can easily walk all the way along the beautiful beach to the village of Bamburgh.

If you’d prefer to cut out the walk from the cottage to the beach, parking is available on the main road heading north to Bamburgh, with direct access to the beach.

Great for dogs because there’s loads of space to run and play fetch, and of course the sea for swimming and cooling off. St Aidan’s is a popular beach for dog walkers so they’ll meet lots of four-legged (and two-legged) friends too.

Great for kids because it’s the perfect venue for sand castle building or kite flying on a windy day (check out the Farne Gift Shop’s great selection of beach goodies). If you’re feeling a little more energetic, you can take a walk right along the beach to Bamburgh Castle (about an hour’s walk), with its excellent sand dunes and pathways to explore. Perfect for imaginative minds!
