Set on a volcanic outcrop overlooking the village of Bamburgh and the beach, Bamburgh Castle dominates the landscape.
Rambling across the surrounding dunes on foot allows you to admire the exterior of the castle, but if you really want to experience its grandeur, you need to go inside. There are 14 public areas to explore, with knowledgeable tour guides and audio guides available to accompany you. There are also live excavations, where you can watch archaeologists at work.
The castle’s Clock Tower Tea Room provides refreshments to replenish your energy after all that exploring.
Check Bamburgh Castle’s excellent website for more information on the castle, current opening hours and admission prices:
Great for kids because they’ll love exploring the castle’s grand rooms and learning about its rich history (including some ghost stories). The tea room is on hand if their tummies start rumbling, and if it’s more adventure they’re looking for, the surrounding sand dunes and beach are sure to keep them entertained (and tired out).
